Birding at The Avian Reconditioning Center

There have been so many birds at ARC lately, it’s hard for me to get anything done. Part of me just wants to sit under the oak tree and watch the Bluebirds and Palm Warblers in the fields, while the raptor parade continues overhead.

Phoebe

This Eastern Phoebe kept an eye on things from the top of our tallest tree.

Secret Palm Warbler

A rare secretive Palm Warbler hiding in a bush. Most of her friends were bopping all over.

Bluebird with a grub

This Eastern Bluebird scored a fat grub.

Palm Warbler with a bug

And this Palm Warbler found a little caterpillar! Perched on a 4×4 post, you can see how small they really are. There’s a lot of personality in those tiny little birds.

Palm Warbler & BluebirdThe posts are very popular perching spots these days.

House Wren

And our resident House Wren surprised me by flying into the classroom where we keep our smaller birds and falcons! I found him (her?) in the corner of this window, not two feet from our Merlin – who, luckily for the wren, had no idea what to do with a live bird. I shooed it out the door after taking a quick picture, and it was soon scolding me from the top of our wood pile as usual.
